Smoking and the use of smokeless tobacco are responsible for the majority of all cancers of the lung, trachea, bronchus, larynx, pharynx, oral cavity, and esophagus. In addition, smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

  • SmokingCessation.org At Smoking Cessation.org, you'll learn how to break down your smoking triggers and overcome your nicotine addiction. You'll educate yourself about the health risks of smoking and learn how to escape the cycle of quitting and then slipping up and smoking again. You'll find helpful tips, new smoking cessation methods, and the latest information that will help you quit smoking for good.
  • UNC Nicotine Dependence Program Clinic The Nicotine Dependence Program (NDP) of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine provides counseling and resources for tobacco use cessation, training for healthcare providers in assisting patients in tobacco use cessation, and education and research in cessation practice. View a brochure that describes this program. Clinics are Tuesday and Friday Mornings at Family Medicine.
